And its close relative SLES can carry traces of 1,4-dioxane, a manufacturing byproduct the EPA classifies as likely carcinogenic in humans. We reformulated around milder coconut- and plant-derived cleansers instead, and getting the grease-cutting performance right without the SLS family took more rounds than we'd like to admit.
